Tom has always been fascinated by sound phenomena, so the Double Bass was an obvious choice. Studying music for many years and continuously striving to perfect his sound on the instrument fueled his curiosity to learn more about sound design.

Ultimately, this led him to study Audio-communication and Technology at the Technical University of Berlin, where he graduated with a Master of Science Degree.

His Master Thesis focused on Musical Acoustics and investigated the Sound Radiation of Musical Instruments at the Transition from Near-Field to Far-Field.

This research led him to work with Neumann Microphones for over a year, where he helped to perfect their first instrumental microphone for live performances, as well as define the sound of the reissue of their most legendary studio microphone. As the Assistant to the two leading Microphone Acoustic Developers, he built several microphone prototypes, made countless measurements, and conducted field tests.

Applying his knowledge led him to recording, mixing and mastering live concerts and studio recordings intensively. Examples of his work are listed below.
